Disease Overview: | Progressive degeneration of the unilateral iris leading to glaucoma and vision loss, primarily affecting women in their middle adult years |
Signs and Symptoms: | Unilateral glaucoma or increased intraocular pressure, progressive unilateral vision loss |
Diagnosis: | Increased IOP, corneal edema on exam, visual acuity test, tonomotery, gonioscopy, slit lamp examination, visual field test |
Treatment: | Trabeculectomy, prostaglandin analogues, beta blockers, alpha-2 agonists, carbonic anyhdrase inhibitors |
Clinical Management: | Symptomatic management |
Referral: | Ophthalmologist. Referral to Medical Genetics Department, if available. Initial virtual care is also available through organizations like TeleRare Health. |
