Disease Overview:Progressive degeneration of the unilateral iris leading to glaucoma and vision loss, primarily affecting women in their middle adult years
Signs and Symptoms:Unilateral glaucoma or increased intraocular pressure, progressive unilateral vision loss
Diagnosis:Increased IOP, corneal edema on exam, visual acuity test, tonomotery, gonioscopy, slit lamp examination, visual field test
Treatment:Trabeculectomy, prostaglandin analogues, beta blockers, alpha-2 agonists, carbonic anyhdrase inhibitors
Clinical Management:Symptomatic management
Referral:Ophthalmologist. Referral to Medical Genetics Department, if available. Initial virtual care is also available through organizations like TeleRare Health.
